This is the title of the worksheet. In English: Unit 1 – Mini-lesson 2: Let’s look for the magic formula. A poem works a bit like magic: a few words make us feel something. The table helps you find the tricks the poet uses. The sheet says: “Schema per svolgere l’analisi degli elementi che costituiscono una poesia, seguendo domande guida”, which means “A scheme for analysing the elements that make up a poem, following guiding questions.”Questo è il titolo della scheda.

Rhythm and soundsRitmo e suoni

Rows 1 and 2 of the tableRighe 1 e 2 della tabella

Rhythm (il ritmo) is how the lines move when you read them aloud: slowly or quickly, with pauses or without. Think of the beat of a song.

Sounds (i suoni) are the sounds of the letters. Some feel hard and sharp, some soft and flowing. When the same sound comes back again and again, the sounds are insistiti (insistent).I suoni sono i suoni delle lettere.

Memory trickTrucco per ricordarelento and allegro sound like their English cousins: “lento” is a slow tempo in music, “allegro” a lively one. Frenetico assomiglia a «frantic» in inglese.

Row 3 of the tableRiga 3 della tabella

A poet chooses words very carefully. Some words are unusual, some are a surprise, some are exactly the right one. A word can also stand in a prominent position: alone on a line, or at the beginning or the end of a line, where you notice it more. One line of a poem is called a verso.
