1. Typowy człowiek ok. 13001. A typical person around 1300

Większość ludzi to chłopi. Żyją na wsi, nie umieją czytać i wierzą, że świat stworzył Bóg. Choroby uważają za karę Bożą lub skutek „złego powietrza”, bo o bakteriach nikt nie słyszał.Most people are peasants. They live in villages, cannot read and believe God created the world. They see illness as a punishment from God or the result of “bad air”, because nobody has heard of bacteria.

2. Czarna śmierć (1347)2. The Black Death (1347)

Statki kupców z Kaffy przywożą dżumę do Messyny. W kilka lat umiera od jednej trzeciej do połowy Europejczyków. Wynaleziono kwarantannę. Brakuje rąk do pracy, więc panowie słabną, a ludzie zaczynają pytać Kościół „dlaczego?”.Merchants’ ships from Caffa bring the plague to Messina. Within a few years from a third to a half of Europeans die. Quarantine is invented. There is a shortage of workers, so lords grow weaker and people begin to ask the Church “why?”.

3. Renesans3. The Renaissance

Bogaci kupcy i bankierzy z Italii płacą artystom. Humaniści czytają dawnych Greków i Rzymian. Człowiek i jego talenty stają w centrum.Rich merchants and bankers of Italy pay artists. Humanists read the ancient Greeks and Romans. The human being and his talents move to the centre.

4. 1453 i druk4. 1453 and printing

Turcy zdobywają Konstantynopol, a około 1450 Gutenberg wynajduje druk. Książki tanieją, a pomysły rozchodzą się szybciej. To przygotowuje grunt pod odkrycia i pod Lutra. The Turks take Constantinople, and around 1450 Gutenberg invents printing. Books get cheaper and ideas spread faster. This prepares the ground for the discoveries and for Luther.
