Trzy figury, jedna zasadaThree shapes, one ruleTre figure, una regola
- A to pole (area), b to podstawa (base), h to wysokość (altezza), l to bok kwadratu (lato).A is the area, b is the base, h is the height, l is the side of the square.A è l’area, b è la base, h è l’altezza, l è il lato del quadrato.
- Pole mierzymy w cm2 (centymetry kwadratowe), obwód w cm.Area is measured in cm2 (square centimetres), perimeter in cm.L’area si misura in cm2 (centimetri quadrati), il perimetro in cm.
- Znasz pole i jeden bok? Dzielisz: b = A ÷ h oraz h = A ÷ b.You know the area and one side? You divide: b = A ÷ h and h = A ÷ b.Conosci l’area e un lato? Dividi: b = A ÷ h e h = A ÷ b.
- Równoległobok liczysz jak prostokąt: podstawa × wysokość. Wysokość stoi pod kątem prostym. You calculate a parallelogram like a rectangle: base × height. The height stands at a right angle.

Pole to liczba kwadracików 1 cm × 1 cmArea is the number of 1 cm × 1 cm squaresL’area è il numero di quadratini 1 cm × 1 cm
Area tells you how much space a shape takes up. We measure it with squares of side 1 cm. A 4 by 3 rectangle has 3 rows of 4 squares, so 4 × 3 = 12 squares. Hence the formula: area = base × height.L’area dice quanto spazio occupa una figura.

- A = b × h. Wynik zawsze w cm2.A = b × h. The result is always in cm2.A = b × h. Il risultato è sempre in cm2.
- Wzór da się obrócić: b = A ÷ h oraz h = A ÷ b. Jak przy 3 × 4 = 12, więc 12 ÷ 3 = 4.The formula can be turned around: b = A ÷ h and h = A ÷ b. Like 3 × 4 = 12, so 12 ÷ 3 = 4.La formula si può girare: b = A ÷ h e h = A ÷ b. Come 3 × 4 = 12, quindi 12 ÷ 3 = 4.

KwadratThe squareIl quadrato
Prostokąt, który ma wszystkie boki równeA rectangle with all sides equalUn rettangolo con tutti i lati uguali
W kwadracie podstawa i wysokość to to samo, bok l. Dlatego A = l × l, czyli l2 („l do kwadratu”). Odwrotnie: gdy znasz pole, bok to pierwiastek kwadratowy, czyli liczba, która pomnożona przez siebie daje pole: l = √A. Np. √64 = 8, bo 8 × 8 = 64.In a square the base and the height are the same, the side l. So A = l × l, that is l2 (“l squared”). The other way round: when you know the area, the side is the square root, the number that multiplied by itself gives the area: l = √A. E.g.

Np. 202 = 20 × 20 = 400, nie 200.l2 = l × l, not l × 2. E.g. 202 = 20 × 20 = 400, not 200.l2 = l × l, non l × 2. Per esempio 202 = 20 × 20 = 400, non 200.
- Warto znać: 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, 100 to kwadraty liczb od 2 do 10.Good to know: 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, 100 are the squares of the numbers 2 to 10.Da sapere: 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, 100 sono i quadrati dei numeri da 2 a 10.

RównoległobokThe parallelogramIl parallelogramma
Przechylony prostokąt: to samo poleA slanted rectangle: the same areaUn rettangolo inclinato: la stessa area
Dlatego A = b × h. Cut a triangle off one side of the parallelogram and put it on the other side: you get a rectangle with the same base b and height h. Shapes with the same area are called equivalent. That is why A = b × h. Careful: h is the distance between the bases at a right angle, not the length of the slanted side. Ecco perché A = b × h.
Przechyl i przesuń trójkątSlant it and slide the triangleInclina e sposta il triangolo
A = b × h, just like in the rectangle. The slant changes nothing.A = b × h, proprio come nel rettangolo. L’inclinazione non cambia nulla.
- Skośny bok służy tylko do obwodu. Do pola potrzebna jest wysokość.The slanted side is only for the perimeter. For the area you need the height.

Perimeter or area?Perimetro o area?
Płotek wokół ogrodu i trawa w środkuThe fence around a garden and the grass insideLa recinzione attorno al giardino e l’erba dentro
Obwód to długość drogi dookoła figury (płotek). Mierzymy go w cm. Pole to powierzchnia w środku (trawa). Mierzymy je w cm2. To dwie różne rzeczy. The perimeter is the length of the road around a shape (the fence). We measure it in cm. The area is the surface inside (the grass). We measure it in cm2. They are two different things.

Pole: mnożysz, w cm2.Perimeter: you add all the sides, in cm. Area: you multiply, in cm2.Perimetro: sommi tutti i lati, in cm. Area: moltiplichi, in cm2.
- Przykład: prostokąt 8 na 5 ma obwód 8 + 5 + 8 + 5 = 26 cm i pole 8 × 5 = 40 cm2.Example: an 8 by 5 rectangle has perimeter 8 + 5 + 8 + 5 = 26 cm and area 8 × 5 = 40 cm2.Esempio: un rettangolo 8 per 5 ha perimetro 8 + 5 + 8 + 5 = 26 cm e area 8 × 5 = 40 cm2.
